Dewalt DWS780 Review

If you are currently looking for a miter saw, you have landed in the right place. We are currently going through the best products in the marketplace and reviewing them. Up next, the Dewalt DWS780 miter saw.

This particular saw is an absolute beast in terms of raw power. This saw weighs in at 67.6 pounds and is made in Mexico. It is a corded electric saw that utilizes 120 volts. This saw is currently ranking in at #5 on Amazon’s list of miter saws. This is a very good ranking for such an expensive saw.
This saw is a 12-inch double bevel sliding compound miter saw which really tip toes on the line of being extremely durable and yet refined and accurate. This is a great saw for those that need gentle precision on the job site, but also need a saw that is going to be able to withstand whatever you throw at it.

Initial Impressions:

Our initial impressions with this saw were fairly positive. First, upon taking it out of the box, you could tell it was a well-built machine. It did not scream premium, but it was certainly a solid piece of equipment. It felt extremely durable and that is what Dewalt was going for here. The saw was actually lined up and ready to use straight from the box. Despite the fact that it contains a 15 amp motor and a huge 12 inch blade, it was actually surprisingly quiet when we put it to work. It definitely felt well balanced and we didn’t have trouble getting accurate cuts.

You could probably carry this saw with one hand, although it would take a bit of effort. It is a heavy piece of machinery and not totally built for portability in mind. We had heard that the sides of the saw might stick, but we did not experience this problem while using it for about a week. The sides are actually very smooth and in some cases I didn’t even realize that I had extended the saw as much as I had. The XPS light on this exceeded our expectations and is definitely better and more accurate that the lasers.

Positives/Pros:

This saw comes with a lot of pros/positives. First of all, the saw is extremely well built and solid. The saw comes ready to use right out of the box. This is an advantage for a lot of people as they will not have to spend time fine tuning it. The XPS cross cut light is phenomenal and is easily one of the best and most accurate ways to make cuts. It is much better than the highly touted lasers that most saws feature. This saw really does have a ton of bells and whistles that will take you a while to learn/master. The dust collection is average. But this is generally a good thing as most saws in the market are subpar or below average. The price is excellent for the amount of value you get.

Negatives/Cons:

Dewalt DWS780

Although this is one great piece of hardware, it does have some faults/cons. First, the blade that the saw came with was good but not great. This can usually be expected with packages, but nonetheless it is a con. The slide mechanism is also not the best execution of a feature we have seen in the miter saw category. It is not as smooth as it should have been. Although this may be a manufacturing defect.

Conclusion:

In the end, I could see this being an excellent purchase for someone in search of a durable, capable, and powerful 12 inch miter saw. This machine is very heavy, but maintains some portability with a good stand. If you are in the market for a miter saw that gives you good value for the price, this is a good saw to take a look at. You should be able to find it for under $600 in the marketplace. For a saw under $600, this is definitely one impressive piece of equipment. It handled everything we threw at her and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a 12 inch miter saw under $600. Add to that a 3 year limited warranty from Dewalt, this miter saw is a great purchase. It certainly isn’t perfect, but you will be hard pressed to find better value for the price.Table Saw Sales Button
